The Soul-Full Eating Experience

Friday, June 13th, 2008

So what did I do just a couple of days after bringing home about a million and one books from the Book Expo???  If you guessed – bought a book – you’ll be right. OK, I know what you might be thinking, and yes I am checking into a ten step program for Book Addicts Anonymous. But let me assure you, I have a fairly reasonable explanation (I did say fairly)!

I bought the book at the enchanted Many Paths spiritual bookstore in North Hollywood. The event was an enlightening and special book-signing of the wonderful best-selling and award-winning (IPPY Award, Nautilus Award finalist) book, Soul-Full Eating: A (Delicious!) Path to Higher Consciousness by fabulous Maureen Whitehouse. (Maureen and I just happen to share the same miracle worker/editor Robin Quinn, www.writingandediting.biz.) By the way, the signing included a raw ice-cream food tasting. OMG! Who knew that raw ice cream could taste so good!!!

In Maureen’s book, she explores the best approaches to diet today (including raw, Macrobiotics, Ayurveda, Acid/Alkaline balance, the “new” Kosher and food combining) as well as taking you on a magical journey of spirituality while introducing the concept of connecting to one’s soul through conscious eating. “Eat with love, what’s grown with love, prepared with love, and served with love” is Maureen’s beautiful motto and sacred wisdom.

At the book-signing, Maureen shared her sage insight, read from her book, and also guided us on a mindfulness exercise exploring all of our senses with the help of raisins (who knew tiny little raisins could teach me so much!).

Maureen’s magnificent insight and wisdom is derived from her glamorous past, traveling the world as an international model while studying the globe’s nutritional and spiritual traditions.

You can purchase Maureen Whitehouse’s wonderful book Soul-Full Eating at the Many Paths Bookstore, the Bodhi Tree Bookstore, http://www.soul-fulleating.com, www.amazon.com, and most neighborhood bookstores. If it’s not on the bookstore shelf, just ask the store personnel to special order it for you.

Thank you Maureen for bringing this wonderful enlightenment to the world!

Today and every day, eat, laugh, love, date, pray and party consciously.

Love & light,
 Lauren

From Recovering Drama Queen to Recovering Book Queen – Book Expo LA

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

I want to share with you my wonderful weekend at Book Expo America (BEA). This event is held annually (rotating between big cities like Chicago, NY, Washington, DC, etc.), and it was hosted this year in the City of Angels at the LA Convention Center. It was truly an event to remember!

Though the official Expo started early Friday, Thursday night my Miracle Worker/Editor Robin Quinn (www.writingandediting.biz) and I already set the stage. We attended PMA’s Ben Franklin Awards for independent publishers and mingled with many publishers and authors such as Michael Larsen (How to Write a Book Proposal).

The next day only got better! I ran into, chatted and mingled with numerous librarians, booksellers, book editors, radio show hosts and even some of my biggest icons (while also getting their books and signatures) such as Louise Hay (You Can Heal Your Life), Barbara Walters (Audition: A Memoir), Jackie Collins (Married Lovers), Hugh Hefner, Jack Canfield (Chicken Soup for the Soul), Mario Lopez (Knockout Fitness), etc. All were very excited for me and my book and most burst out laughing when I shared the title From Breakup to Breakthrough: Confessions of a Recovering Drama Queen. (Jack Canfield [LOVE Jack!!!] liked it so much that he asked me to send him my book!!) By the way, funny thing ’bout Drama Queens – seems like we all at some point in our lives either have been one, were related to one, knew one, married one or at least have dated one (or two or three!!!). But one sure thing – it makes all of us laugh (someone once told me that laughter is a sign of understanding!).

And – the best part about all this book expo business – most of the books given out were absolutely FREE!!! Yes, that’s right – FREE! Authors and publishers give books away at the Expo to create word of mouth publicity for new titles and to stir interest in booksellers. And most authors were right there ready to sign and endorse your book for you!

Needless to say, I was in Book Lover’s Heaven. So, on the second day, I traded my trademark sexy high heels for some sneakers and instantly turned from an avid book reader into a full-blown book addict (have I mentioned that most books were absolutely FREE?!?!).

Later Saturday night, Robin and I partied the night away when we were invited and excited to attend three of the biggest parties in town, while enjoying walking downtown from one party to the next where they served exotic drinks and amazing food!

I arrived home every night exhausted but with a smile plastered to my face, and bringing back with me just about a million and one books (seriously, my back will never be the same!!!). So now I’m contemplating (choose one or all J): Turning my little home into a public library, giving all my friends books for Christmas and Hanukkah, or last and not least (the option I will probably go for) getting some new book shelves to house my newfound friends and having reading material for just about the rest of my life!

I ended the special weekend late Sunday with a sexless night in the so-called city back with my high heels and along with my six sexy girlfriends reminiscing over a cosmopolitan and then enjoying a 10:30 show at Hollywood’s beautiful ArcLight movie theatre. What did we see? The much anticipated film, Sex and the City, of course (LOVED it!!!).

This is a weekend I will surely cherish and remember!

Thank you Book Expo! And thank you Miracle Worker/Editor Robin Quinn, and Book Publicist 1 Irwin Zucker for always rooting for me and sharing this special weekend. If there is such a thing as past lives I have surely somehow, someway been related to you guys!!! Also, thank YOU! for reading this blog and sharing in the magic of the written word. We now have visitors on the site from 39 different countries!!!

Be good to yourselves and each other!

Love & Light,

Lauren
